Bucks County Opportunity Council Kicks off their Back-to-School Drive

Bucks County Opportunity Council, a local non-profit organization dedicated to reducing poverty, is asking for community support for their 25th annual Back-to-School Drive.

Last year’s drive supplied school essentials and funding for 160 students, equipping them with the confidence and resources they needed to start the school year strongly. T.D., a parent said, “Gift cards and school supplies provided by BCOC literally take the anxiety out of buying school supplies! This is something we always must brace for when the school year starts, but with the help of BCOC, I can buy all the supplies I need for my two children, plus I can save some money for other necessary expenses, like clothing and shoes!”

BCOC is looking for sponsors to help their clients with a minimum of $100 donation per child. Preferred donations are in the form of gift cards, so they can shop together as a family. However, you can purchase and donate a backpack, school supplies, and a lunch bag. Please drop off your donations to any of our four office locations: Bristol Monday through Friday 8:30AM – 3:00PM and Warminster (Serving Bucks Together), Doylestown, and Quakertown anytime between the hours of 8:30AM – 4:00PM.  The deadline for donations is Friday, August 8, 2025.

BCOC is the lead anti-poverty, non-profit organization in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, dedicated to ending poverty by connecting people with the resources they need to thrive.

BCOC has five major program areas: Housing, Food, Weatherization, Volunteer Income Tax Preparation (VITA) and the Economic Self-Sufficiency (ES) Program. Housing includes street outreach, rental and move in aid, and utility shut-off prevention. Food services supply food directly to families through a network of 75 food pantries and distribution sites. Weatherization services help families reduce their energy costs. VITA provides free income tax preparation assistance. The ES Program assists individuals and families to leave poverty permanently through case management, education, and employment.

For 60 years, the Opportunity Council has served low-income families in Bucks County by helping them to stabilize when in crisis, garner resources to achieve a livable wage, gain additional education and training, and work towards economic self-sufficiency.
